A new release of nemo is out. In this release we focused on getting the stuff already there working better (full notes). So we spend a lot of time profiling the application for both memory and cpu problems (things that with a garbage collector is actually often related). The work has resulted in a much lighter indexing performance and lower memory usage overall, but there is still work to be done in the libraries Nemo use before it can run at a more normal memory load. Give it a try and if you have problems, please use the bug database for reporting problems.

We’re very pleased to announce a new version of Nemo. Nemo is the first software to support the new standard Xesam, for talking to desktop search servers. In this release we have only tested the Xesam interface against the beagle xesam adaptor (version 0.2 with the following patches required) but it should work against all complying servers. The performance compared to tracker has been a lot better because of the improved way one can query data. Tracker is slated to support Xesam in the next major release. Furthermore the indexing performance has been improved a lot and a dialog has been added to the tray to monitor the progress.

Please use the newly created mailing list for reporting feedback/bugs/wishes. Thanks!

Nemo 0.1.1is, as the version number indicates, a minor release to fix some of the major bugs in the first alpha release. The two biggest being, the program crashing at randomly and a big memory leak. We also have our very first two external translations, Swedish and Czech thanks to Erik Piehl and Patrik Šíma. Finally we now have a public svn repository working at gnome.org. We hope to have the full infrastructure up and running for the next major version that will feature a much better indexing mechanism so that it won’t kill your machine on first run :-)

You can also search in the contents of files with the help of an external full-text file indexer (currently we support Tracker):

If there are too many files to show they’re collapsed. You can press “more” to get to them:

Or go the day view:

Here’s the year view. Before we make any restrictions there are lots of files, so it’s hard to find stuff:

So let’s just show the images:

Or those with the label “monodevelop”:

That’s all folks. If you want to see more, you’ll have to download it and try it yourself. :-)
